Summer in the City: 2014 Event Roundup

AtlanticaWith only a few weeks left of spring, it seems another Halifax summer is almost upon us. Let’s hope the sun keeps shining, temperatures get back up to normal, and that tourists flock to our great city for another fantastic summer season! One of the reasons Halifax is such a great place to visit during the summer months are our festivals and events. Here are the highlights of some of our favourites…

June 15-22 – MultiFest

Nova Scotia’s multicultural festival is back on the Halifax waterfront near the seaport, offering up numerous booths of delicious ethnic foods you won’t find anywhere else, musical and cultural performances, as well as many activities for the kids — including a yurt dedicated to just children’s performances!

June 19-29 – Magnetic North Festival

We’re happy to be the host hotel for this amazing theatre festival! “Magnetic North is Canada’s only national theatre festival, and showcases the best Canadian theatre from across the country. We bring Canadian stories to life on stage in your community, creating a shared cultural experience that can transform lives. For this year’s event, we’re proud to partner with Halifax’s Eastern Front Theatre, a local company with a national reputation for speaking to the Atlantic Canadian experience.” (

June 29 – July 6 – GOLFest Nova Scotia / Tour

The Nova Scotia golf scene has never seen anything like GOLFest. This premiere event will take place at new Ashburn and feature PGA-level players like DeLaet, Weir, and Hearn as well as the four-day Nova Scotia Open with a grand prize of $650,000!

July 1-8 – Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo

This signature event may not need any introduction, but here’s what the organizers have to say: “Looking for a taste of true Nova Scotia? There’s bagpipes, highland dancers, la culture de l’acadie and military traditions. Hoping for something more modern? The Tattoo also features innovative acrobatic acts, modern music, contemporary dancing, trampoline routines and cutting-edge videos. Don’t miss the world’s largest annual indoor show. Only in Nova Scotia.” (

July 4-12 – TD Halifax Jazz Festival

Always going above and beyond to deliver surprising headliners and a fantastic city festival experience, Jazz Festival in Halifax is a can’t-miss event. Whether you buy a full pass, participate in music workshops or just grab some stand-alone tickets to a couple shows, you can’t beat listening to amazing music on the Halifax waterfront in this capacity. (This year Mos Def, Ghettosocks, Ben Caplan and Carmen Townsend are some of the impressive names.)

July 17-27 – Halifax Pride Festival

The Halifax Pride Parade is some of the most fun you can have in our city. There are other numerous amazing events like theatre, sports, and comedy, over the span of ten days — during the fourth largest pride festival in Canada!

July 30 – August 4 – Buskers Festival

A favourite among tourists and locals alike, the international Buskers Festival lights up Halifax’s waterfront each summer with a variety of dynamic outdoor performances. Great for all ages, this festival bring our waterfront to life with fire-eaters, musicians, dancers, acrobatic performers, magicians and more.
